Help us, help you...

If you experienced abuse as a child, you can access free, confidential support from the Trauma Counselling Line Scotland or TCLS.

TCLS is a free telephone counselling service for anyone who experienced sexual, emotional, physical, psychological, spiritual abuse or neglect as a child.

Being able to access to specialist support means people can deal with the issues that have affected their lives and understand how their experience may have prevented them from living the life they really want to lead.

So how does it work?

If you decide to use the service, you will decide what time of day or evening is best for you to work with your counsellor and as it is telephone counselling, it doesn’t matter where you live. We know from people who use the service that they choose to speak to their counsellor at a time and place where you feel safe.

You will always work with the same person, which means you never have to repeat what has happened to you.

The service is free; sessions are anonymous and totally confidential.

How can I use the service?

You need to be aged 16 or over and you would contact the service on the phone number or email address below.

You will be eligible to use the service if you live in Scotland and are a member of the BME community or living with a disability, which can include mental health.

You will also be eligible to use the service if you live in one of the following rural or remote areas:

Argyll & Bute
Dumfries & Galloway
Eilean Siar
Perth & Kinross
Scottish Borders
North Ayrshire.

When you’ve decided the time of day or evening you would like to speak to your counsellor, you would be given a date when your counselling would start.

All our counsellors are fully trained and highly experienced with male and female counsellors available from a range of ethnic backgrounds. We also offer the service in a number of languages.

What people say about the Trauma Counselling Line Scotland

“Working with a TCLS Counsellor, I felt safe, and my impression was of great skill, knowledge and experience; also a sense of them personally giving their all to help, and of genuine communication and connection.”

“We shared light-hearted moments, amidst all the difficult work. There was nothing fixed, rigid, or formulaic, but rather a relationship that felt like Counselling, Parenting, and Mentoring at different times - A real contrast to previous help, which felt formal, distant, or medicalised.”
